Qatar's cost of living, based on consumer price index (CPI), edged up 0.1% month-on-month this September, mainly on higher prices for clothing and footwear, according to official estimates.

However, the CPI inflation was down 0.5% year-on-year in September this year, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics data suggest.
International Monetary Fund had said during 2017–18, subsidy cuts, increase in public fees, a moderate recovery in global commodity prices and the implementation of a value added tax are expected to moderate Qatar’s inflation over the medium term.
Clothing and footwear, which carry 5.11% weight, witnessed 1.8% increase in the index in September 2017 on monthly basis; even as it reported 0.5% decline year-on-year.
Food and beverages, which has a weight of 12.58% in the CPI basket, saw its group index rise 0.8% this September against the previous month's level. The index rose 3.6% year-on-year.
Miscellaneous Goods and Services, which have 5.69% weightage, saw its index rise 0.6% month-on-month in September 2017 but fell 0.8% on a yearly basis.
Education, with 5.75% weightage, saw its index gain 0.4% in September both month-on-month and year-on-year.
However, Housing, water, electricity and other fuels — with a weight of 21.89% in the CPI basket — saw 0.7% month-on-month fall in its index in September this year and 4.7% on a yearly basis.
The CPI of September 2017, excluding “housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” showed an increase of 0.3% on a monthly basis and 0.8% on a yearly basis.
Transport, which has 14.59% weightage, group index decline 0.3% this September against August 2017 level but reported a 6.1% jump on a yearly basis. The sector has the direct linkage to the dismantling of the administered prices in petrol and diesel.
The index of Restaurants and Hotels, which have 6.08% weight, shrank 0.1% month-on-month in September 2017 and 1% on a yearly basis.
Recreation and Culture, which have 12.68% weightage in the CPI basket, saw its index unchanged from the previous month's level but showed 4.5% plunge year-on-year.
Furniture and household equipment, which have 7.7% weightage in the CPI basket, also saw its index unchanged on a monthly basis; even as it was down 0.6% year-on-year.
Communication, which carries 5.87% weight, saw its group index tread a flat path against August 2017 level but down 1.1% year-on-year.
The index of health, which carries 1.79% weightage, was also flat this September on a monthly basis but saw 2.7% increase on a yearly basis.
Tobacco, which has 0.27% weight, stood unchanged both annually and monthly in September this year.
