Beijing: Qatar beach volleyball team had a mixed day at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Qinzhou Open. While Ahmed Tijan and Julio Cesar entered the quarter-finals yesterday, second seed Cherif Younousse and Santos Pereira Jefferson crashed out of the tournament.
Tijan and Cesar made it through to the last with a tough win over Serbia’s Djordje Klasnic and Lazar Kolaric 2-1 (21-14, 15-21, 15-8). They will next face third seeds Nadir Diaz Gomez Nivaldo and Bayard Sergio Reynaldo Gonzalez of Cuba today. Meanwhile, Jefferson and Cherif lost to Russia’s Maxim Sivolap and Igor Velichko 2-0 (21-18, 21-12).
Last week, Tijan and Cesar had won the Grand Front Osaka Open in Japan. Qatar’s beach volleyball team are 12th in the world ranking after Younousse and Pereira had qualified for the round of 16 in the recent world championship in Austria.
