‘New transportation plan to be based on traffic survey’

The new Qatar transportation master plan will be based on an innovative activity-based traffic model, Anwar Ali Shah, a senior expert in design and infrastructure, told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat on Tuesday.
“The consultants of the project are American professors who will carry out a detailed survey among as many as 10,000 people before designing a model tailored for Qatar,” he explained.
Shah is currently working on master planning and detailed design of Hamad Port Phase 2 and the new Qatar transportation master plan.
“The survey conducted will take into account information such as when people leave for office, at what time children go to school, where people go for lunch among other details about the time people spend on the roads in the country,” he said.
“Many traffic and parking updates will be available online once the new model is implemented. For instance, people will be able to see the availability of metro station parking on their mobile phones,” he added.
Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar, is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio. It is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107. The show is hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman.
