Kenya's Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge underlined his status as the world's best long-distance runner by winning the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, but missed the world record.
Kipchoge clocked an unofficial time of two hours, three minutes 34 seconds after holding off the challenge of Ethiopia's Guye Adole, who finished 13 seconds back on his debut at the distance (42.195km, 26.219 mi).
Kenya's Felix Kandie finished third.
The last six men's marathon world records have been set in Berlin, with Kenyan Dennis Kimetto's mark of two hours, two minutes and 57 seconds in 2014 still standing.
Kipchoge now remains unbeaten in the distance since 2013.
