Leading Indian stand-up Comedian Amit Tandon will be coming to Doha for his first-ever show in Qatar.
Scheduled at the Giwana Ballroom at Radisson Blu hotel on Friday, October 13, from 7pm onwards, the Indian comedy show will be organised by Top Hat Entertainments.
Community contacted Rasgni Kotriwala, founder of Top Hat Entertainment, and sought her thoughts on the idea of bringing the Indian comedian to Doha.
She said, “There is a huge expatriate community in Qatar from the subcontinent and we feel that these kinds of desi events are not as regular as they could be.
“I come across many artists and performers who want to perform in Qatar as the country has been receiving the artists and celebrities with open arms. When I first came to Doha I felt that this place loves and respects cultural activities.
“Laughter can be the best cure for all problems. Amit Tandon is a household name in India today and has half a million followers across the globe. His humour is extremely clean, simple and touches the heart of everyone.”
About her expectations from Doha, she said that she believed that expatriates from the subcontinent would come to the show and support the new genre of entertainment coming to their town.
“We promise to continue to bring quality entertainment in times to come. We have received a warm and welcoming approach by one and all, especially the Indian embassy and other Indian social groups and associations as well.”
When asked if Tandon has earlier performed in Gulf countries, she said this was his first visit to Qatar, even though he has performed elsewhere in the GCC. Most of his shows in the Gulf have been sold out. Indian expatriates can connect with his stories of middle-class upbringing and the humour from daily family life very easily.
“We expect that Doha will also be a sold out show. Amit says that after one marriage and two kids he realised it could not get any worse and took on comedy as full-time career after leaving his comfortable corporate job. Amit is absolutely a treat to work with and his humility always inspires me,” Kotriwala said.
She added that the opening acts will be presented by local, upcoming comedians Subeer
Josh and Chandrashekar Angadi.
Ray Mc Robbie, Director of Entertainment, Radisson Blu Hotel, said, “We are delighted to announce Amit Tandon will perform live at Giwana Ballroom.  We look forward to seeing you there for a fun filled evening of comedy.”
Indian Ambassador P Kumaran will be the guest of honour.
Tickets for the show are available at QR400 for Platinum seats, QR200 for Gold seats and QR100 for Silver seats. They can be bought online at Q-tickets or in person from the F&B office of the Radisson Blu hotel.
