His Highness the  Emir  Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met yesterday with a host of world leaders, including the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and discussed with them ways to improve bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Gulf crisis.
In the meeting with the Kuwaiti emir at the headquarters of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, the two leaders reviewed the fraternal relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them to serve the interests of the two brotherly people, in addition to the latest developments in the regional and international arenas.
The meeting was attended by  Deputy Chief of Kuwait National Guard Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah and the official delegation accompanying the Kuwaiti emir.
The meeting was also attended by their excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir. 
His Highness the Emir and Lavrov reviewed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and exchanged views on the most important regional and international issues, including the Gulf crisis. 
The meeting, held on the sidelines of  the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly at the headquarters of Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir. 
His Highness the Emir met and held talks with Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo and discussed bilateral relations and how to develop them in various aspects, especially in the fields of economy and investment, in addition to discussing regional and international developments.
Among the other leaders His Highness the  Emir met and held talks were Guinea President Alpha Conde and Paraguay President Horacio Cartes.
Sheikh Tamim also met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad and discussed with him the  aspects of co-operation and means of enhancing ties, in addition to discussing the Gulf crisis and its implications for the Gulf region.
His Highness the Emir also met Dennis Muilenburg, Chairman, President and CEO of The Boeing Co, and Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.
These high-level meetings of the Emir followed his landmark address at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
In his speech, the Emir renewed a call for dialogue based on mutual respect for sovereignty to end the Gulf crisis and asked for an international convention on settling disputes between states by peaceful means.
He said the countries blockading Qatar are inflicting damage on the “war on terror” and said their actions that were aimed at undermining the sovereignty of an independent nation were tantamount to terrorism.
“The countries which imposed the blockade on the State of Qatar interfere in the internal affairs of many countries, and accuse all those who oppose them domestically and abroad with terrorism. By doing so they are inflicting damage on the war on terror,” Sheikh Tamim said at the annual gathering of world leaders.
“We have refused to yield to dictations by pressure and siege,” he stressed.
The Emir also met US President Donald Trump and held talks with him in New York on Tuesday. Trump expressed hope the Gulf crisis “would be resolved quickly”.
