The Ministry of Public Health will organise the third Qatar Patient Safety Week from September 24-30 under the theme “Together for Patient Safety” with the participation of more than 1,000 health practitioners.
The Patient Safety Week, which will be held under the auspices of HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari, is an annual event organised by the Ministry at the national level as an initiative and an educational and awareness campaign aimed at spreading the concept of patient safety among healthcare workers and beneficiaries.
The aim of the event is to promote and disseminate the culture of patient safety through dialogue with decision-makers in all health fields to develop regulations and laws necessary to raise the levels of care and awareness about the concept of patient safety.
It also aims to encourage communication between decision-makers, healthcare providers and patients and share information, experiences and knowledge on best practices in patient safety.
The event sheds light on the challenges facing the activation of national initiatives in this area, the creation and development of appropriate solutions through public-private co-operation, and the creation of a forum for dialogue between patients and healthcare providers to promote patient participation in building a safe health system.
The programme of the Patient Safety Week features a number of activities including lectures, workshops and training programmes, with the participation of experts in the field of healthcare and safety of patients from inside and outside Qatar.
It also includes role plays for health practitioners to improve the safety of patients in their health institutions in addition to a poster competition for local projects on quality improvement and patient safety, where the top five posters will be honoured.
Internal and external networks are planned to be established to share knowledge and information in the field of quality improvement and patient safety.
In addition, public awareness campaigns will be launched on September 26 at a number of health centres and on September 29 and 30 at a commercial centre to promote awareness and launch initiatives on patient safety, discuss the importance of drug safety and infection control, encourage attendees to participate and express opinions on health services to contribute to making these services safer.
