The Lamjung Service Society (LSS) recently organised a gathering to remember noted Nepali art historian Dr Dina Bangdel, who was chair of arts department at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. Dr Bangdel, daughter of Nepali writer and artist Lain Singh Bangdel, died on July 15 during an operation on her nose. She was 54. 
The programme was presided over by LSS chairperson Bishnu Lal Shrestha and the participants included the relatives and friends of Dr Bangdel. 
LSS treasurer Binod Bastola praised the scholar for her contributions in promoting Nepali arts all over the world. He said her death was a great loss for the entire Nepali community and the country’s art scene.
The event also featured a poem penned by Dr Bangdel’s husband, Dr Bibhakar Shakya, in her memory. The poem was presented through a projector. 
Qatar-based Nepali artist Man Bahadur Subba presented a sketch of Dr Bangdel. LSS General Secretary Sitaram Thapa hosted the programme.
