Al Ahli new recruit Francisco Sandaza is raring to go with his new side ahead of the new QNB Stars League season begins on Friday evening.
Speaking on the sidelines of the media day, the Spanish attacker admitted he is looking forward to representing the Brigadiers.
“I’m very excited to start the season, we have worked hard in pre-season. This is my first season in Qatar and I’m looking forward to playing with the team, and showing my skills in the QNB Stars League.”
Sandaza was recruited by new Al Ahli coach and compatriot Joaquín Caparrós and the 32-year-old striker revealed he was a major influence on the move.
“It’s a pleasure to work with a big coach like Caparros he is a big name in Spain, and he wants to challenge himself in a new league. Now he has prepared us physically and mentally to do well in the league.
“It’s important that we have Spanish speaking players in Kim Gwi-hyeon, Cristian Nazarit   and myself. Especially so we can speak with the coach and follow his instructions on the pitch. Hopefully this will work, and give us good results in the league,” added Sandaza when asked about the Spanish speaking contingent that has arrived at Al Ahli during the summer.
The former Girona striker also revealed that he will be keeping an eye on his former club after they were promoted to Spain’s La Liga last season.
“Of course I will be looking out for Gironia this season. I enjoyed many good times with the club and many of my friends are still playing for them. However for me I have a new challenge with Al Ahli and I’m fully prepared to do the best for this side.”
Sandaza said he does not have a goal target for the new campaign. “I don’t promise to score a number of goals, my aim is to help the team progress. I think if we all work well like in the preseason, Al Ahli will do well in the league.”
Al Ahli open up the QNB Stars League season with an away encounter against Al Gharafa on Friday.
