The educational sector of Qatar has not been affected by the ongoing Gulf crisis, Nabila Kaukab, a leading expert in the field of education, told the live Urdu radio show Haqeeqat yesterday. “There are around 304 independent schools and 541 private schools in Qatar and none of them were affected by the siege,” Kaukab said, adding that these schools cater to students from different nationalities.
Kaukab, also the Principal of Pak Shamaa School since 1995, said that as far as students from other GCC countries studying in various universities of Qatar were concerned, they did not receive any notice from the Qatari government to leave the country. “Students were told that they are welcome to return to Qatar to continue their education but in case their home countries of Saudi Arabia, the UAE or Bahrain do not allow them to return to Qatar, their universities here will help them transfer student credit hours in universities elsewhere,” she said.
Haqeeqat aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar. It is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio, and is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107.
