A former German nurse serving a life sentence for murdering patients is suspected of killing 84 further people by injecting them with heart medication, investigators said Monday.
A court order to exhume scores of former patients of the suspect - named only as Niels H in accordance with German privacy law – found traces of the medication in 84 cases, they said during a press conference.
Last summer, police and prosecutors concluded that the man had killed 33 patients at a hospital in Oldenburg in northern Germany and that he had done so out of a desire to win approval by taking heroic measures trying to resuscitate them.
He injected patients with a drug that shut down their cardiovascular systems.
