Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) is pursuing its relief intervention for the victims of military operations in Mosul, Iraq.
Such effort is funded by Qatar Fund for Development, with logistical support from the International Committee of the Red Cross, according to QRCS.
Over the past few months, QRCS’ medical workers have operated the Mosul General Hospital in Wadi Hajar, western Mosul.
With this help, the 22-bed capacity hospital, which also has three well-equipped rooms, was able to provide medical care for the displaced Iraqis in that part of the city.
“In response to the current state of emergency, the hospital provides a full range of medical services for patients and injured victims of the ongoing war,” hospital director Dr Moaz Sidawi said.
Since QRCS’s medics took responsibility of the hospital, some 9,250 injured people have been treated and 300 different surgeries have been performed.
With a workforce of 91 staff, Dr Sidawi pointed out that the 15-bed emergency department is striving to cope with the increasing numbers of victims of war.
QRCS has an extended medical programme to enhance hospitals and health centres serving the people of Mosul. These facilities are at high risk of full disruption of work due to lack of supplies amid security issues.
According to initial assessment by QRCS’ mission in Iraq, around 137,000 families (825,000 people) have been displaced in 13 Iraqi governorates, with 95% of them in Nineveh Governorate alone.
