The Malaysian Defence Minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, expressed his country’s hope that the current Gulf crisis will end as soon as possible.
Hussein stressed that Malaysia is ready to contribute to resolving the Gulf crisis. He also praised the mediation efforts exerted by Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.
The minister said in a speech at a session of his country’s parliament that Malaysia is ready to mediate to resolve the crisis if it is asked to do so.
However, the opportunity should be given to Kuwait first, and the Malaysian government supports the mediation efforts of the emir of Kuwait.
He said in a speech broadcast by the Malaysian News Agency Bernama, that if all sides feel that Malaysia could mediate in the crisis, Kuala Lumpur would be ready and would do something useful in the context of these efforts.
