The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) is working with Qatar Foundation (QF)  to sponsor its first Pre-University Education team’s summer camp, and as part of the collaboration is delivering bespoke Generation Amazing sessions for attendees.
The camp, which is running from 2–27 July in the state-of-the-art Awsaj Academy in Education City, is open to boys and girls aged 6-17.  Mead al-Emadi, the SC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Local & Regional Manager, said: “We are delivering the Inclusive Generation module of our Generation Amazing programme to 120 children.  “With these sessions we will reinforce communication, teamwork and leadership skills with two different sets of students.”
The camp has been organised in partnership with a number of local organisations, including Al Shaqab, Msheireb Properties, Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Translation and Interpreting Institute, Weill Cornell Medicine, Texas A&M University at Qatar, and Doha Film Institute.  Schoolchildren from across the country, including from nine QF schools under the PUE banner, have been invited to attend. Since it was founded in 2010, the Generation Amazing programme has provided workers, schoolchildren and vulnerable people the skills and means to help effect social change in their communities.
The programme has been driven by the belief that change works best when people lead it themselves. It empowers people to create united, healthy and sustainable societies through its three primary initiatives: Inclusive Generation, Healthy Generation and Green Generation.
Participants at Qatar the events spoke positively of their Generation Amazing experiences so far. “I love that girls are able to play football,” said Maha al-Salem, 10. “This game is not just for boys. It’s so fun to take part; it doesn’t matter who wins or loses.”
Mohammed Shaqfeh, nine, explained that he wasn’t really a fan of sport before he started the camp. “Since I’ve become a part of Generation Amazing, I’ve started to love playing football. I’ve learned that you can only succeed if you work together as a team and through this I’ve made many friends here.” Meanwhile, Hissa al-Kubaisi, QF’s Head of Curriculum, added: “The SC’s participation, represented through the Generation Amazing programme, has immensely contributed in reinforcing team building skills, integrity, and honest competitive spirit among participants.”  (SC.qa)
