Qatar beach volleyball team, comprising Jefferson Perreira and Sherif Younis, continued their brilliant form in the 4-star world championship round of Olsztyn and qualified for Round 2 after beating their German opponents — Jonathan Erdmann and Armin Dillinger — with two clean sets 21-18 and 21-18. The Qatari team had earlier beaten world number 14, the US team of Theodore Brunner and Casey Paterson, in the second round of the World Tour. Qatari team’s participation in the tournament is part of their preparatory programme ahead of their first-time participation in the World Beach Volleyball Championship, which will be held in Vienna from July 28 to August 6. The draw put Qatar in group B along with Latvia, Germany and Venezuela.

Al Rayyan beat Vamos in Asian futsal
Al Rayyan, the champions of the Qatari league, defeated Indonesia’s Vamos 2-1 in the opening match of the second group of the Asian Futsal Championship 2017 in Vietnam. Brazilian striker Diego Nans scored two goals to secure the first three points for Al Rayyan in the tournament, which will conclude on July 30. In the second game in the same group, Naft Al Wasat beat Tajikistan’s Disi Invest 7-2. Al Rayyan were scheduled to face Tajikistan’s Disi Invest yesterday. The first two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals on July 27. Al Rayyan are keen on winning the Asian title after winning the domestic league and cup titles. The Qatari team managed to go beyond the group stage in each of the previous three editions, and they are seeking to make up for their quarter-final defeat in 2015 by Thai Son Nam of Vietnam.
