A luncheon event held by the Qatar-British Business Forum (QBBF) in Doha recently “was an opportunity to reassure businesses that the UK-Qatar relationship remains as strong as ever”, British ambassador to Qatar Ajay Sharma has said.
At the event, ambassador Sharma addressed more than 140 QBBF members.
The QBBF luncheon events encourage businesses to meet, collaborate and share ideas on supporting trade between Qatar and the UK.
Following the recent visit to Doha of Boris Johnson, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in the UK, Sharma updated business leaders on the current situation in the region. Members of the British embassy’s Department for International Trade (DIT) also attended the luncheon event.
Sharma said, “This was an important event given the current situation in the region. It was an opportunity to reassure businesses that the UK-Qatar relationship remains as strong as ever, and that British businesses should continue to make the most of the significant opportunities in Qatar.”
Emad Turkman, chairman of QBBF, added: “Qatar and the UK share a long history, and the British community in Qatar is the largest European community living and working in Qatar with many members of the community living in Qatar for more than 20 years. Therefore, it is in the community’s interest to safeguard their business interest and increase the co-operation between the two countries to try and overcome the difficulties created by the unjust action of the few regional countries.”
