The Qatar Fund for Development (QFD) has announced start of the third phase of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa City, the biggest residential project in Khan Yunis governorate in southern Gaza Strip.
Some 700 apartments at a total cost of $43mn will be constructed in the third phase of the project.
QFD said in a statement that under the first and second phases 2,324 apartments were built at a total cost of $113,895,600.
The statement pointed out that 68.6km of main roads project at a cost of $117,517,900 is due to be completed in co-operation with Gaza Reconstruction Committee. Meanwhile, the second phase of the project of rehabilitation of Salah Al Din Street was completed and the third and fourth phases of the project in Khan Yunis governorate have started.
QFD has also completed the work on His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prostheses. Installation of appliances, equipment and hospital furniture is currently being carried out at a total cost of about $16mn.
Director of development projects in QFD, Mesfir al-Shahwani said that these projects come within the framework of Qatar’s contribution to the reconstruction of Gaza Strip. He pointed out that His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani had offered $407mn grant which is being spent on infrastructure, housing, health, education and agriculture projects in Gaza Strip.
