Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) has signed agreements to purchase 14 advanced aircraft for training purposes in addition to two simulators of the same aircraft type.
The move is aimed at meeting the growing requirements of the college, which is considered one of the best of its kind in the region, QAC director general Sheikh Jabor bin Hamad Mohamed al-Thani said on Tuesday.
During an interaction with journalists, Sheikh Jabor said facilities at the QAC are among the finest in the world and top agencies such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have acknowledged this.
The director general informed that the QAC held negotiations with IATA to launch more advanced programmes for the educational and professional enhancement of the students at the college.

The decision to buy 10 new D40 aircraft (single engine) and four D42 (dual engine) aircraft is part of QAC's mission to introduce more technically advanced programmes at the college, according to Sheikh Jabor.
The new training aircraft, scheduled to arrive in the coming months, are capable of adapting to the hot weather conditions of this region.
Sheikh Jabor said QAC has become one of the leading colleges in the region and the world, especially after receiving recognition out of 450 IATA-registered colleges, in which QAC was ranked in the top 10.
He also discussed QAC's strategic plans to keep up with developments in aeronautical sciences, aeronautical engineering, air traffic control and meteorology, through co-operation with specialised organisations around the world.
Explaining the initiatives and programmes launched by QAC to enhance the professional skills and competence of its students, the director-general said a number of student-friendly educational programmes and applications have been introduced at the college in recent years. The college's facilities have expanded accordingly and 13 training halls have been added to the main complex.
Sheikh Jabor also informed that QAC currently has two Airbus A320 simulators, with a new building under construction that will be ready by the end of the current year, according to the official Qatar News Agency (QNA).
The college is also equipped with facilities for conducting classes for helicopter engineering. Besides, there are two training programmes covering seismology and agriculture, conducted by the meteorology department at the college.
Programmes are also developed for the repair and maintenance of light aircraft, with approval from the FAA.
As part of its expansion, the college has introduced advanced courses in aeronautical engineering, which include specialised programmes for mechanical and electrical professionals working in the aviation industry. These courses are held in line with the requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency.
Meanwhile, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) classes for trainees have contributed considerably to their professional enhancement. The IELTS centre at QAC is one of three such centres in Qatar, approved by a top New Zealand body. Since September last year, 100 trainees have successfully completed the IELTS programmes and qualified to undergo specialties such as physics, aviation engineering, mathematics and aeronautical sciences at the college.
QAC also has agreements with Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Interior to train staff at the airport and personnel from airport immigration.
The college will soon sign an agreement with Dassault, a reputable French institution, for running engineering programmes for maintenance of aircraft. An agreement with the Ministry of Defence is also expected.
The QAC will also acquire 360 degree simulators for air traffic control requirements at Hamad International Airport.
Once the ongoing expansion of QAC is complete, the college will have between 1,000 and 1,200 students.

IATA honours QAC

Qatar Aeronautical College has qualified as IATA's 2017 Premier Circle Member for the impressive results it achieved in 2016, QNA has reported.
QAC was able to achieve this recognition due to its excellence in aspects, such as providing all training needs through agreements to purchase advanced equipment and devices.
The purchases pertain to programmes, courses, simulators or any materials that may be used in marketing the programmes of IATA in particular and marketing of customer programmes in general.
