A gallery called “Love for Homeland” opened on Tuesday at the offices of the Ministry of Culture and Sport in Al Dafna featuring 35 artworks from the different art schools to express love of the country and reaffirm loyalty to His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
The gallery showcases the works of 29 artists, of which 23 are Qatari.
It is the outcome of an activity that was held during Eid al-Fitr as an initiative by Qatari and resident artists to document the solidarity between the people and His Highness the Emir during the ongoing siege of Qatar by some Gulf states.
Ahmed Jassim al-Kuwari, head of the Ministry of Culture and Sport’s Department of Culture and Arts, expressed his delight to see the works that reflected “different and distinguished patriotic ideas,” saying that the gallery didn’t take long to prepare; however, it presented outstanding works, which showed that the participant artists are indeed “talented” in fine art, particularly since some of them painted their works in only 24 hours.
At the gallery, different works, methods and concepts reaffirmed loyalty to the homeland and its leader the Emir.
The works portrayed the siege and the Qatari people who are facing the challenge and expressing love for the country.
Fine artist Mariam al-Mulla said her artwork that is on display at the gallery expresses the Qatari people’s love for their country, adding that the use of pure gold leaves is indicative of the sacrifices that Qataris are willing to make for the homeland and the Emir.
A Thai artist participated with a painting showing Doha’s skyscrapers with cars bearing slogans supporting the Emir. He said he wanted to show Doha’s beauty, especially the Al Dafna area.
Sudanese artist Fatima Ibrahim, a student at the Sudanese school, participated with two works; a monochrome painting of the Emir and a portrait featuring His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan, saying that they express “the love and appreciation of the Sudanese people for the State of Qatar and its leadership” and show “solidarity against the unjust siege by some countries.”
A Turkish artist participated with a mural bearing a painting of the Emir and a message in solidarity with Qatar and its leadership.
