Qatar Museums (QM), under the leadership of its chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, has announced it is organising a series of “exciting, dynamic and educational” events at the Doha Fire Station.
The events include a talk this month by Fire Station director Khalifa al-Obaidli, who will be promoting the Paris Residency opportunity for local Qatari artists.
QM will also hold a series of educational workshops from this month and running until the end of the year, designed to nurture and inspire young talent.
According to QM, these opportunities come as part of the Fire Station’s commitment to foster the next generation of local creative talent and encourage artists to explore and develop their artistic skills.
“We are delighted to be able to offer continuous opportunities to our local community in Qatar, both here and abroad, to inspire our creative generation and give them opportunities to thrive and flourish,” al-Obaidli said. “The Paris Residency is something that I am particularly proud of, as it is a great opportunity for local talent to visit Paris, encounter different cultures and engage in artistic dialogue with other artists from around the world.
“Through our programme of events, we will continue to support the artistic community in Qatar and help them to push boundaries, and grow.”
The Paris Residency talk will be held on July 17 at 6.30pm, and will see al-Obaidli share details about the upcoming Paris Residency programme to encourage local artists to apply to be the next resident in this sought-after initiative.
Hosted at Qatar’s Studio at the renowned Cité internationale des Arts, Paris, the programme is a recurring three-month residency open to all Qatari artists.
Each iteration of the programme offers one lucky artist studio accommodation space and the chance to experience an art residency in Paris, visit museums, galleries and be immersed in the art scene in the city.
The current Paris artist-in-residence is the talented Qatar painter Nasser al-Attiya, who has recently been selected to complete the three-month programme starting in July.
This follows the success of the first Paris residency, which Qatari artist Ebtisam al-Saffar successfully completed in May.
Separately, starting today, the Fire Station will be launching a series of workshops offering participants the chance to experiment and learn a variety of skills, including working with batik on silk, mixing silk with glass art and marbling art with paper and silk.
