Qatar’s Al Arabi volleyball team kicked off their Asian Club Championship campaign with a deserved 3-0 (25-15, 25-18 and 25-21) win over Australia’s Canberra Heat in the Hanoi yesterday.
Qatar play in the third group of the tournament, which is being hosted by the Vietnamese capital and will conclude on July 6.
Today, Al Arabi will play their second match against Hong Kong champions Yan Chai and will conclude their preliminary matches with the Kazakh Altai team tomorrow.
Al Arabi have taken a good step towards qualifying for the second round of the tournament, to compete strongly for the Asian title, which they had won in the 2012 edition held in Shanghai, China.
The champions of the new edition of the Asian Volleyball Club Championship will be eligible to represent Asia at the upcoming Club World Championships next year.
