Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) Hassan al-Thawadi said the 2022 FIFA World Cup is an Arab tournament, and not limited to Qatar, adding that the objectives and benefits of the World Cup belong to everyone by creating opportunities for young people and boosting economy.
Al-Thawadi said in a press statement during his attendance at Al Roudhan Ramadan Football Tournament in Kuwait that the opening of the Khalifa International Stadium was the first and the most important event in the journey of the World Cup, stressing that it was a special moment of pride as it coincided with the final of HH the Emir Cup in the presence of His Highness.
The SC secretary-general said new Qatari sustainable environmental development standards have been applied after their adoption by FIFA. They are related to sports facilities, sustainability and environment.
Al-Thawadi also touched upon the role of Josoor Institute in providing young people with practical experience besides scientific aspects in various fields, not just in sports but also in the management of establishments and commercial affairs and in attracting sponsors and all other aspects.
He praised Qatari youth, stressing that there is a wonderful group of young people who have capabilities, ambition, desire and passion, praising the talents of Qatari and Arab cadres along with their commitment and passion for work, “which proves that we are capable of holding a historic World Cup together”.
Al-Thawadi also spoke of the role of the communities in organising the World Cup, pointing out that there are co-operation agreements with 37 communities representing an important part of the fabric of Qatari society.
Further, the SC secretary-general also lauded the successful partnership between the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and Al Roudhan Ramadan Football Tournament in Kuwait.
On his part, SC assistant secretary-general Nasser al-Khater said the SC always attend the Al Roudhan Ramadan Football Tournament and other events in Kuwait and would take help from cadres and volunteers from Kuwait.
Al-Khater talked about renovation work at Khalifa International Stadium, stressing that it went through four stages: the first in 1976 in preparation for the Gulf Championship, which was won by Kuwait; then in 1992 for the Gulf Cup; in 2004 for the Asian Games; and the current one for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
