Music legend Paul McCartney, who turned 75 this week, announced that he will perform at five concerts in Australia — his first tour Down Under in 24 years— as well as in New Zealand at the end of the year.
“I’m going to come to Australia and New Zealand in December to play some concerts down there, very exciting.
I haven’t been there in a long time,” McCartney said yesterday during a Facebook Live talk. In Australia, the 21-time Grammy winner will play in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. He will also have a show in Auckland, New Zealand between December 2 and 16 as part of the “One On One” world tour that has seen McCartney play 41 shows in 12 countries to more than 1.2mn people since 2016.
The legendary Beatles member will likely perform super hits from his band during the concert, as well as from his solo career, as he said he likes to give the audience what they come to hear.
“I start with the fact that I used to go to concerts as a kid when I didn’t used to have any money and so I know what I want,” he said. “I think the average audience member wants what I wanted which is the performer to do songs you know and hits you love, so I kind of start with that,” McCartney said.
Last month, The Beatles’ album “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” was re-released on its 50th anniversary with a new stereo remix,
helping it re-enter charts around the globe. McCartney said on Facebook Live: “I’m re-listening to it ... and it does sound good.” “Sgt Pepper, that was the first time we’d been really allowed as much time as we wanted because we were now off the road so that was different,” he said.
