The gunman who opened fire on a group of Republican congressmen at a baseball practice last week had a list with the names of six members of Congress and was keeping more than 200 rounds of ammunition in a storage facility, the FBI said on Wednesday.
James Thomas "Tom" Hodgkinson, 66, acted alone and there were no links to terrorism, the FBI said, a week after he opened fire on the practice, wounding top Republican Steve Scalise and four others. The gunman died after a shoot-out with police.
Hodgkinson, from the central state of Illinois, had been living out of his van in the Washington suburbs since March. The FBI has searched his vehicle, his home and a storage unit in Alexandria, Virginia.
He had posted anti-Republican views on social media, but his remarks appeared to be standard protected political speech, and he had made no direct threats against members of Congress or the baseball game, the FBI said.
The list of lawmakers did not provide any context and he only searched briefly for two of the members online, the FBI said.
Scalise remains in a Washington hospital after suffering a life-threatening wound to his hip, but his condition was upgraded to serious from critical during the weekend.
