Under the instructions of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, additional routes, changes in existing routes, reduced waiting time with increased frequency have been introduced in the public bus networks of Mowasalat-Karwa.
The move is expected to significantly enhance the bus networks with more access, reliability with the objective to increase ridership and encourage public bus usage, the company said in a statement yesterday.
New routes have been introduced and few of the key routes modified in the recent times, especially related to operations in the West Bay area and HIA in suiting arriving passengers to choose their own mode of transportation and encourage the public to use public bus.
Many of the HIA routes are now modified. The Route No.747 from HIA to Doha Bus Station (DBS) has been modified to cover major hotels around Doha Bus Station (DBS), the Corniche and Salata area.
Route No. 737 from HIA to Karwa Bus Station (KBS) in Abu Hamour now covers Barwa City, Religious Complex and the Mesaimeer Health Centre. Also, route No. 777 from HIA to City Center Doha is now extended to The Pearl covering the Lagoona Mall, and a new route (no. 727) introduced from HIA to Al Khor via Al Shamal Road.
Routes nos. 74 and 75 (West Bay route shuttle services) are modified to improve passenger connectivity to key locations, reduce travel and waiting time, based on the performance analysis and feedback from the public.
Route no. 74 operating in West Bay as single route will now operate on two routes, which cover ministries, offices, all major hotels and some of the embassies in West Bay area.
Routes nos. 302 and 303 operating in Abu Hamour and Ain Khalid respectively have been terminated but routes nos. 20, 21 and 22 cover part of those areas where 302 and 303 services were operating.
In addition, during Ramadan the operations of buses on routes nos. 11, 12, 21,31, 33, 34, 43, 55, 56 and 76 are extended up to 12 midnight. Also, routes nos. 20, 31, 41, 119, 301 and 304 are extended until 11pm.
In order to meet with the growing demand and ease commutation during Eid al-Fitr holidays, the bus services will operate up to 1am.
Two new ticket vending machines have been installed, one each at DBS and KBS for the convenience of bus riding customers to access Karwasmartcard purchase/top up any time.
Mowasalat is working very closely with Ministry of Transport and Communications to broaden the public bus network in full consideration of infra structure changes and rail network planned to execute the National Transport Master plan and give various choices of mode of transport to the country’s residents and visitors.
The company is also preparing to provide smart transportation solutions for transiting in Qatar, in compliance with Smart city plans and deliverables.
On the occasion of Ramadan, Mowasalat has also mobilised its staff and resources to reach sale/top up of Karwasmartcard at some of key workers’ accommodations in Industrial Area and Al Khor Mall giving away attractive gifts.
