Despite the economic blockade on Qatar by some Gulf Arab states, the Central Market in Doha continues to receive considerable quantities of high quality fresh fruits and vegetables daily, mostly imported from Turkey and Iran. The prices are reasonable too.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported that fresh fruits and vegetables are imported from more than 23 countries spanning through Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe. For instance, the cherries seen recently on display at the market came from Turkey, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Morocco, all sold at around QR15 for a double pack weighing around 900gm.
Also, premium quality Iranian and Turkish tomatoes were on display at the market in addition to the Jordanian variety. The average price is QR4 to QR5 per kg. Locally produced cherry-tomatoes were also available at the market for QR12 a box weighing more than 3kg. Eggplants were sold recently for QR25, for a box of around 6-7kg. Potatoes were also available from different sources, with a sack of about 10kg sold at QR30-40 depending on the quality and source.

Different varieties of fruits are available at the Central Market.

The prices vary from vendor to vendor with little variation depending on the ability of both the vendor and the buyer on making a deal and the willingness of the vendor to sell off his goods that may not be suitable for long storage. Also the majority of the vendors at the market do not have proper cold-storage facilities and get their stock daily.
Iranian watermelons were seen in good quantities at the market with a single melon sold at around QR10 as the lowest price depending on the size and quality of the item. Iranian cucumber was sold for QR45 for a box weighing more than 10k. Freshly imported lettuce is available at the market, with a box costing around QR30.
All types of leafy vegetables and fruits are still available at the market at competitive prices.
