As part of its first ever Ramadan, Doha Festival City, ‘the largest entertainment, retail and hospitality destination in Qatar’, managed and operated by Al-Futtaim, is expecting more than 3,000 children to take part in the Garangao celebration on June 9.
In preparation to welcome thousands of families, more than 10,000 candy-filled packs will be hidden throughout the mall.
Many favourite brands and outlets will also be joining in the celebration, including Debenhams, Old Navy, Toys R Us, H & M, Monoprix, Carluccios, and VOX cinemas.
Doha Festival City’s special Garangao celebration is for children aged four to 12 years old and the mall is calling on children to dress up and take part in the fun free of charge from 8.30pm.
Anyone keen to participate will need to register at the registration desk in Centre Court after arriving in the mall, where they will be handed a special bag and bespoke Garangao map to venture around nearly 4km of space with the Musahar to collect their goodies.
After the Garangao tour, children are able to take part in the Musahar drum-making workshop, where everyone will have the chance to design and build their own drum, made out of recycled tin containers.
Garangao, a children’s festival, is traditionally celebrated throughout the Middle East after the breaking of the fast on the 14th day of Ramadan.
It is widely celebrated in Qatar where children embrace the celebration every year, by wearing Qatari traditional costumes, to travel around their neighbourhood after breaking fast, singing Garangao folk songs and collecting nuts and sweets.
