Qatar University College of Health Sciences’ (QU-CHS) Public Health faculty and students participated in the Healthy Food Healthy Lifestyle events’ fourth workshop, held at Aspire Zone earlier this month.
Themed Exercise Your Health, the workshop was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in collaboration with the Department of Public Health at Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.
CHS faculty and students participated in the event discussions and activities. They worked in groups in which they discussed a wide range of topics, such as Healthy Households, Food Security and Food Waste, Awareness building and educating our next generation, A healthy society – economics and communication, Sustainable shopping experience and Exercise your work. Department of Public Health director Sheikh Dr Mohamed al-Thani discussed the National Health Strategy 2017-2022 and addressed the main objectives to be accomplished in the next five years. Commenting on the event, CHS dean and QU Biomedical Research Centre director Dr Asmaa al-Thani said: “Participation in these events will help prepare capable professionals who can implement successful and cost-effective campaigns and national programmes in Qatar.”
CHS lecturer Dr Ghadir al-Jayyousi added, “This workshop adds value to our students’ knowledge and experience about effective health awareness programmes that meet the needs of the Qatari society while understanding the environmental and socio-cultural factors of Qatar.”
