Windy and hot conditions will continue in the country today, the Qatar Met department has said, with winds blowing at speeds of up to 45 knots expected at times.
The weather report says strong winds are likely in most areas today along with poor visibility due to dust. Offshore, too, strong winds and high seas have been forecast.
The Met department had said on Sunday that northwesterly windy conditions - locally called AlBawari – were expected to continue until the weekend. Also, the maximum temperature is likely to “exceed mid-40C” levels in some places during this period.
The detailed forecast for today says it will be hot during the daytime and slight to blowing dust is expected in some inshore areas. The wind speed will be 17-27 knots, going up to 45 knots at times during the day before decreasing to 10-20 knots by night. Visibility, meanwhile, may drop to 2km or less occasionally.
Offshore, dusty conditions are likely at times and the wind speed will be 17-27 knots, reaching a high of 35 knots in some places, with the sea level rising to 11ft.
A maximum temperature of 45C is likely in Al Khor, Mesaieed and Wakrah today,
followed by 44C in Doha.
In view of the prevailing conditions, the Met department has urged people to be cautious and avoid venturing into the sea as well as exposure to direct sunlight. It has also re-issued a list of safety precautions – prepared in co-operation with the Ministry of Public Health – to be followed in dusty conditions.
