Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) secretary-general Ali Hassan al-Hammadi recently received Belgian ambassador Christophe Payot to discuss humanitarian co-operation and issues of mutual concern.
The meeting was attended by Rashid Saad al-Mohannadi, executive director, Relief and International Development; Issa Mohamed al-Ishaq, director, communication; Dr Fawzi Oussedik, head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law; and officials from the Relief and International Development Division of QRCS.
Al-Hammadi welcomed the guests and held talks on humanitarian and social conditions in the Mena region. Payot commended the significant role of Qatar in the regional and international humanitarian sphere.
Calling for lasting bilateral relations, he promised to facilitate any issues where Belgium could contribute, paving the way for humanitarian co-operation between European Union and Gulf Co-operation Council countries.
Al-Hammadi expressed willingness to have stronger relations with the Belgian Red Cross through mutual visits.
He gave an overview of QRCS’ history, numerous activities in African and Asian countries and development programmes in Qatar.
