Lekhwiya youngster Asim Madibo believes that he can emulate the achievements of teammate Almoez Ali next season, and push for a nomination for the best U23 player at next season’s QFA awards.
“It’s been a big season and I am very happy to be with this team, to win the Sheikh Jassim Cup and the League in my first season was very special for me,” the 20-year-old midfielder said on the sidelines of the recent season-ending QFA Awards ceremony.
Whilst the Qatar Youth international also admitted that he didn’t expect a call up to Lekhwiya at the start of last season.
“I was in Europe and I didn’t expect that I would be with Lekhwiya this year. For me it has been a perfect season,” the Aspire Academy graduate said.
“I will be with Duhail next season. For me I want to be with Duhail and keep winning trophies and build on the first season I had in Lekhwiya.”
Madibo was restricted to 12 appearances in the league this season as Djamel Belmadi’s side swept to their fifth ever QSL title. However, the youngster was clear with his aims for the new campaign.
“I am aiming for more playing time next season. I know this season I did not have as much time on the pitch, but I believe next season I will have more opportunities and God willing I will make an impact with Duhail.”
Praising fellow Lekhwiya youngster Almoez Ali, Madibo said he was aiming to be nominated for the award after the 2017-18 campaign.
“It’s difficult to say that I could be nominated for the best U23 player next season. I believe that Almoez is so good that he could easily win the award again. But God willing, I will be up on the stage with him next year,” he said.
