Starting today the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) will sell subsidised Arabian sheep to Qataris until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
MEC has agreed with Widam Food Company to import around 30,000 heads of live sheep, which are in high demand among Qataris during this season.
Each Qatari adult is entitled to two sheep. To get them, he/she had to submit the original Qatari ID at any of Widam selling outlets at its slaughterhouses in Doha, Al Shamal, and Umm Slal market. Widam has also provided air-conditioned tents for the customers.
The sheep have to be slaughtered at Widam slaughterhouses immediately to avoid any manipulation. For a local sheep of around 40kg or above the price is set at QR1,000, for Jordanian sheep of 35kg or above, the price is QR850. Widam would provide 2,000 local sheep, and 28,000 Jordanian sheep.
Extra services costs include QR16 for slaughtering, cutting and packing, and QR34 for porters. These will be charged through separate tickets.
The initiative is part of MEC Ramadan campaign “Aqal Min Al Wajeb.
