Dr Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Ali al-Maadheed, president of Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS), received a delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Cholpon Sultanbekova, on the sidelines of her participation in the 17th Doha Forum.
The delegation comprised a number of top Kyrgyz statesmen, including
ambassador Nuran Niyazaliev.
The meeting was attended by Nayef Faisal al-Mohannadi, director, Administrative and Financial Affairs; Issa Mohamed al-Ishaq, director, Communication; Adel al-Baker, head of the president’s office; and officials from the Relief and International Development Division at QRCS.
Dr al-Maadheed welcomed the guests and held talks on the humanitarian and social
conditions in Kyrgyzstan.
On her part, Sultanbekova commended the hospitality of Qatar and the important results of the Doha Forum. She also highlighted QRCS’s efforts to help the vulnerable around the world, particularly in Kyrgyzstan.
“We look forward to reinforcing our bilateral co-operation with new projects in the fields of orphan care, education, economic empowerment and healthcare. The Kyrgyz culture has a lot in common with the Qatari culture. The Arabic language is widely spoken in Kyrgyzstan. Currently, we are facing a rise in cancer, especially among women and children. We need much help to overcome this serious phenomenon”.
Dr al-Maadheed expressed willingness to co-operate with Kyrgyzstan in humanitarian projects, within the scope of QRCS’s mandates, building upon its strong relations locally and internationally.
Under a five-year memorandum of understanding signed with its Kyrgyz counterpart in March 2015, QRCS distributed food packages to 1,500 families in Ramadan 2015 and 2016. During the winters of 2015 and 2016, blankets and heating materials were handed over to 750 families.
