Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS)’s branch in Al Khor held lectures and courses at schools, youth centres and the branch for the benefit of 410 students, 70 women and more than 500 visitors at the Librtha Maritime Festival in April.
Marking World Oral Health Day, the branch conducted oral health lectures at Al Khor Model Kindergarten for Boys and Al Thakhira Model Independent School for Boys.
During the two sessions, the attendees were taught about oral health, how to prevent cavity, the correct use of toothbrush and toothpaste, and the importance of healthy food.
A third lecture on obesity and nutrition was given to the students of Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Misnad Independent School. The QRCS trainer explained what a balanced diet is, the importance of vegetables and fruits, and the negative impact of junk food.
At the same school, a first-aid lecture focused on how to control nosebleed and other bleeds, the right way of handling a fracture/injury and the measures to take in cases of asthma or suffocation.
In relation to community awareness, QRCS co-ordinated with the Daawa and Religious Guidance Department to deliver a lecture on responsible behaviour, and another lecture on volunteering and helping others.
A trainer from QRCS delivered a lecture for Grade-5 students of Al Khor Primary School for Girls about the changes of physiological and mental growth, as well as how to cope with these changes. Girls from Al Thakhira Girls’ Forum were also present.
The same lecture was held at Al Thakhira School for Girls.
The branch provided two ambulances, medical staff and life guards to cover the Librtha Maritime Festival, a four-day event held by Al Thakhira Youth Centre under the auspices of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
In co-operation with Al Khor Girls’ Centre, the branch hosted a lecture by Sheikh Khaled al-Khiliwi for housewives about a happy family.
