Education Above All (EAA) foundation, through its programme Reach Out to Asia (Rota), recently partnered with Qatar University (QU) to take a group of students on a service learning trip to Nepal.
The visit was part of its International Volunteer Trips Programme, aiming to expose the volunteers to the reality faced by in-country Rota beneficiaries and build their capacity.

A total of 18 female students travelled to the Dolakha region of Nepal on an eight-day service trip. Working in collaboration with ActionAid Nepal, volunteers facilitated daily workshops and took part in interactive activities with 72 students from the Shree Janajyoti Higher Secondary School and Shree Tripura Sundary Basic School.
Fatma al-Mulla, one of the volunteers on the trip, said the experience has helped her to better understand some of the educational challenges facing students and teachers in Nepal. “I would like to thank EAA for giving me this incredible opportunity – it has really opened my eyes to some of the educational obstacles youth across Asia are faced with and underscored the importance of Rota’s work.”
“This trip has boosted my confidence and inspired me to get involved in more volunteer initiatives both abroad and back home in Qatar,” Ameena al-Jarman added.
The daily volunteer-led workshops covered a range of topics that were designed to enhance students’ English language skills, leadership skills, social entrepreneurship and cross-cultural understanding. The emphasis was on shared learning and relationship building between youth in Qatar and Nepal.
Mohamed al-Saleh, national programmes director at EAA’s Rota, said, “Our International Volunteer Trips programme gives university students in Qatar the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and play an active role in contributing to Rota’s educational initiatives while learning about and experiencing different cultures.”
“By focusing on project-based learning in the volunteer-led workshops, these trips aim to make an impact in a meaningful, tangible and sustainable way. Volunteers gain valuable life experiences and skills that they can use to shape their local communities back home in Qatar,” al-Saleh added.
EAA’s Rota Volunteer Programme aims to promote a culture of volunteerism in Qatar, create a link between Rota’s national and international initiatives, and build the capacity of volunteers and beneficiaries by engaging in meaningful service, cross cultural exchange and skills transfer.
