At least three major road projects on the western and south-western side of Qatar are in advanced stages of development, Ashghal, the Public Works Authority, has said.
They are Rawdat Rashed road (Phase 3), the New Industrial Area interchange on the Orbital Highway and roads and infrastructure developments in Bani Hajer North, according to reports in Ashghal in-house magazine's April issue.
Rawdat Rashed road is regarded as an important step towards fulfilling a safe and effective road that links Salwa Road with Dukhan Expressway.
The Phase 3 of the Rawdat Rashed Road Development project consists of a 14km road with three lanes on either side.
Ashghal officials hope the third phase of project would be completed by the last quarter of this year.
About 40% of the Phase 3 has been completed. The road extends north from end of Phase 2 (the work of which is already completed) at the new roundabout north of Rawdat Rashed village to Lebsayyer interchange on the Dukhan Highway. This is besides the construction of a 2.8km dual road heading east with two lanes in each direction to connect the new road with Al Sheehaniya.
The first two phases of the Rawdat Rashed project, which were completed, consisted of a little more than 20km with three lanes on either side.
The project, which is located perpendicular to Salwa Road towards the north, is approximately 33km.
The New Industrial Area Road interchange is one of the major links of the East West Corridor project, the work of which is progressing fast.
According to Ashghal authorities, nearly 70% of the interchange is almost complete. Traffic though the interchange would start on its completion by the end of this year.
More than 70% of the works in Bani Hajer North, including bridges and tunnels, is already over. Through the works in Bani Hajer area the authorities aim to revamp the infrastructure and rehabilitate the area's road network.
Works are taking place in about 21km of the local roads, it is reported. The expected commissioning of the project is in the last quarter of this year. The area has more than 550 residences.
