Qatar Chamber is eyeing to tap Germany’s expertise in several sectors, including small and medium-sized enterprises and energy, vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari has said.
Al-Kuwari and Qatar Chamber officials, as well as members of the business community held a meeting with a German delegation led by Felix Neugart, head of mission, at the chamber’s headquarters yesterday.
“We appreciate so much the German leading economic experiment. We are interested to take advantage of the pioneer expertise in developing technology, SMEs, plant construction, energy generation, industry, and the service sector, as well as the transport infrastructure sector.
“As you know, Qatar is implementing a number of mega projects for developing infrastructure and for 2022 World Cup preparations. Qatar gives a top priority to German investors,” al-Kuwari said in a speech.
Al-Kuwari said there are several German companies operating in Qatar’s major projects like railways, trade, services, and infrastructure.
“Indeed, we are honoured to see more German companies become a part of this success. German and Qatari companies can cooperate in these projects. There are lots of opportunities for partnership in the Qatari market.
“On the other hand, Qatar has made a number of successful investments in Germany and has holdings in companies, including Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, and Siemens,” al-Kuwari said.
Al-Kuwari said bilateral trade between Qatar and Germany stood $2.54bn in 2015. This, he noted, “is expected to increase in the future.”
“Qatar and Germany have a long history of political and economic relations thanks to a steady number of high-level visits from both sides. Over the last years, they have deepened their relations at all cooperation fields.
“This year, Germany and Qatar are holding a bilateral cultural year, officially entitled ‘German Season in Qatar’ with the aim to strengthen civil society ties between the two countries and provide the opportunity for discussions on socially relevant issues through cultural exchange and dialogue,” al-Kuwari added.
