Qatar Foundation (QF), in partnership with QSports, has officially announced that its Ramadan sports initiative will kick off on May 28.
The QF Ramadan Sports 2017 initiative will feature 11 competitions, with men’s tournaments including super sixes cricket, basketball, indoor futsal, Ramadan Cricket Cup T-12, tennis - singles and doubles, outdoor 7-a-side football, volleyball and squash, which will also be open to younger players aged 11 years and above.
Additionally, three competitions will be held for women - squash, basketball, and volleyball.
“Our QF Ramadan Sports 2017 initiative aims to engage Qatar’s residents in sports and in staying active during the summer months, complementing the many exercise and recreation programmes we run throughout the year,” said Mohamed al-Saoud, head of Recreation Services at QF.
Ghanim al-Mohannadi, deputy chairman of QSports, added: “We’re excited to work with Qatar Foundation to organise sports events for the public. QSports has held Ramadan tournaments for the last five years, and I’m confident that teams will be excited to make use of the wonderful facilities available at Qatar Foundation.”
All games will be played in the evening, from 8.30 to 1.30am, in the Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre facilities. A range of prizes will be awarded to the winning teams, in addition to medals and trophies.
QF Ramadan Sports 2017 is open to all. Places will be limited to the first 12-16 teams in each sport who register before May 23.
