The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has conducted a surprise inspection campaign on peddlers and street vendors covering Doha Corniche, Al Wakrah and Al Daayan.
The campaign aimed at ensuring the compliance of such retailers with the stipulations of Law No 5 of 2015 regarding commercial and industrial stores and street vendors and the ministerial decision No 243 for 2016 regarding the regulations of activities of street vendors and peddlers.
The campaign resulted in issuing 16 different violations, mostly involving street vendors, using workers’ accommodations as grocery and restaurant without a proper license, and a petrol station for engaging in some retail business without a license.
The violating street vendors were referred to the security department concerned to take the necessary procedures against them and the other violators were notified to modify their situation according to the applicable laws and regulations.
