As the mercury level rises around the country, the Qatar Met department has issued safety precautions to be observed during hot conditions.

The weather office said in a post on social media that temperatures were expected to increase in most areas over the next few days, and listed some dos and don’ts on how to stay safe.

People should try to avoid outdoor activities and exposure to direct sunlight as much as possible, the advisory noted. “Wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing to reflect sunlight,” it added, asking people to drink plenty of fluids.

Outdoor workers should take ‘rest breaks’ in the shade as often as possible, the department further said.

The advisory also reminded people not to leave children unattended in a vehicle as well as to ensure that no one is inside before locking a car.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s forecast says it will be hazy in some areas in the early hours of the day, followed by a hot day. Slightly dusty conditions are also likely along with some clouds. Offshore areas, too, are expected to see hazy conditions along with some clouds.

The maximum temperature for Wednesday is likely to be 39C in Doha and 38C in Al Khor. Tuesday, the maximum was 41C in Jumailiya, Batna and Ghuwairiya, while in Doha it was 39C.
