Umm Salal struck twice in the first half to edge out Al Shahaniya 2-1 and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Emir Cup yesterday.
A third minute goal by Mustafa Mido saw Umm Salal open the scoring but their joy was short-lived as Al Shahaniya equalised a minute later through Fahad al-Baloushi.
Umm Salal, however pushed hard and went ahead again when Mahmoud al-Mawas found the net with ease after charging into the Shahaniya penalty area.
Meanwhile, Al Kharaitiyat beat Al Ahli 4-2 in a penalty shootout to reach the quarterfinals.
After both sides finished at 3-3 in regulation time, Al Kharaitiyat held their nerve to beat Al Ahli in the tiebreaker at Al Arabi Stadium.
Anuar Diba smashed a brace (61 and 78) before Domingos Mascimentohammered in one late in the second half (90) to force the game into penalties for Al Kharaitiyat.
For Al Ahli, Cristian ?scar Maidana (19), Yaseen al-Shikawi (33) and Ali Fariduddin (56) scored the goals in regulation time.
Al-Shikawi was yellow carded in the 20th minute.
The Emir Cup final will be played on May 19, the last day of the football season in Qatar.
