QGBC was awarded the right to host UTC in Doha as part of its mission to raise awareness about sustainable living in Qatar.
The event, held in collaboration with the World Urban Campaign (WUC), an initiative of UN-Habitat, is planned to take place on May 15 at 16 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’, the event will explore the potential implications of UN-Habitat’s New Urban Agenda on the future of Doha as an emerging city. Expert discussions will be focused around three main themes: Intelligent Cities, Sustainable Neighbourhoods and Private Sector Engagement.
Meshal al-Shamari, QGBC director, said: “Hosting this event with the World Urban Campaign is perfectly in line with QGBC’s mission to discuss trending issues that are affecting the lifestyle and sustainability of residents. Our city is faced with waves of fast-paced transformation, as an array of new neighbourhoods, districts and community spaces emerge every year. It is important to take a moment to review this progress and discuss potential improvements and recommendations with leading experts and policy-makers.”
Registration for the event is open to a limited number of attendees. QGBC has said it is working to ensure that the event is attended by a wide range of stakeholders to allow for effective participation. Those interested are welcome to apply at http://qgbc.org.qa/outreach/utc
