Qatar Charity’s Relief Department director Mohamed al-Kaabi has said their organisation has plans to expand their relief works to several territories affected by war and other situations like drought and famine.
Al-Kaabi said this while speaking about the projects taken up by the Qatar Charity to rehabilitate local people in some areas hit by famine in Yemen.
Al-Kaabi said the charity will continue to support such projects and focus more attention there in coming months.
In co-ordination with the Sobol Institute, Qatar Charity has carried out relief works in the famine-affected areas of Yemen. It included the distribution of food baskets to 2,500 families in Hajjah Governorate, which is suffering from extreme poverty.
Under the ongoing initiatives food is being provided for over 18,000 people a month. As part of the ‘Emergency Relief’ project in Yemen, Qatar Charity aims to support people of those areas hit heavily by famine, poverty,  and rising food prices.
“The situation in Yemen is extremely difficult and it needs remarkably great efforts. There are many areas that are on the edge of famine,” said al-Kaabi.
Abd District in the Hajjah Governorate is one of those areas whose population has been benefited considerably from the emergency relief project.
More than 2,500 food baskets were provided and each basket is is enough for meeting the requirements of a family for a full month.
A packet consisted of 25 kilos of flour, 10 kilos of sugar, 10 kilos of rice, oil food, and one carton of milk and one carton of beans, in addition to dates.
While thanking the Qatari and expatriate societies for their support, al-Kaabi said the charity’s humanitarian efforts depicted the generous nature of the Qatar society.
Helping the people of Yemen with shelter, food, medicine and other basic needs embodies Qatar’s institutions’ feeling of religious and moral duty towards all those in need in the world.
More than 840,000 were benefited from similar projects undertaken by Qatar Charity in 2016.
Qatar Charity’s Office has succeeded in completing several relief and development projects and it is following up various sponsorship offers, despite obstacles and difficulties experienced in Yemen.
The projects have been divided into seven main areas namely relief and food, health, social and educational fields, income-generating projects, Quran memorisation and mosques, poor homes and water projects.
More than QR21mn were spent on supporting the requirements of over 840,000 people.
