Qatar and Uganda signed a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) following a session of official talks chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
During the session, they reviewed bilateral relations between Qatar and Uganda and means of enhancing them in all fields, especially in the defence, political, economic, investment and agriculture sectors.
The two sides also discussed important regional and international developments.
Following the session of talks, HH the Emir and the president of Uganda witnessed the signing of the following agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU) between the governments of Qatar and Uganda:
1. An agreement in the field of defence;
2. An agreement on encouraging and protecting mutual investments;
3. An agreement on economic, trade and technical co-operation;
4. An MoU on co-operating in the field of agriculture;
5. An MoU on holding political talks between both countries’ Foreign Affairs Ministries on issues of common interest.
The session was attended by a number Qatari ministers and members of the official delegation accompanying President Museveni.
Earlier on arrival at the Emiri Diwan, the Ugandan president was accorded an official reception ceremony.
Following the talks HH the Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni and his accompanying delegation.
The banquet was attended by several ministers.
Later yesterday HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser met President Yoweri Museveni and his wife Janet Museveni, the First Lady of Uganda and Minister of Education and Sports, at her Qatar Foundation office.
They discussed means of providing vocational education and training for young people in Uganda to offer new job opportunities for them in their country.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also met with President of the Uganda Yoweri Museveni on the occasion of his visit to Qatar.
During the meeting, which was held at the Sheraton Hotel, they discussed means of promoting co-operation between the two countries, and reviewed a number of issues of common concern.
President Museveni held a separate meeting with HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.
During the meeting, they reviewed the peace, development and stability achieved by the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
