More than QR1.4bn in business opportunities related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be on offer to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the ‘Moushtarayat 2017’ at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre from April 6 to 8.
Hosted by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and the Ministry of Finance, the three-day event will see the participation of the main contractors building five of the proposed host venues for the FIFA World Cup, under the umbrella of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).
SC said main contractors working on the construction of Al Wakrah, Al Bayt – Al Khor City, Qatar Foundation, Al Rayyan, and Lusail stadiums will attend ‘Moushtarayat 2017’ to find partners for the ambitious sports infrastructure project.
Ghanim al-Kuwari, Competition Venues executive director at the SC, said: “As progress continues across Qatar to deliver the necessary infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, we’re very happy to offer local SMEs the opportunity to take part in these exciting projects, which will leave a lasting legacy for the surrounding communities.”
“The main contractors building five of our stadiums are looking for local partners, with projects that have an added value of QR1.4bn. In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy, we want to help transform Qatar’s economy by offering tangible opportunities to local businesses who can contribute to the significant construction this year and over the coming years,” he stressed.
Eight of the proposed host venues are currently in different stages of construction, with work advancing rapidly across the different sites and the first stadium set for completion in 2017 at Khalifa International Stadium.
The stadiums, which have been designed by some of the world’s leading architects, as well as renowned Qatari architects from the Arab Engineering Bureau, are creating opportunities for local, regional, and international companies.
Companies working on projects for the 2022 FIFA World Cup that will attend ‘Moushtarayat 2017’ include MIDMAC, which is in a joint venture with PORR Qatar for building Al Wakrah Stadium, a 40,000-seater venue that will host matches up to the quarter-final stage.
Qatari contractor HBK Contracting Co (HBK) and China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), also a joint venture building the iconic Lusail Stadium, the proposed opening and final venue in 2022, will also participate in the event.
Qatari contractor Al Balagh Trading & Contracting and India’s biggest construction firm, Larsen & Toubro Limited, main contractor for Al Rayyan Stadium; Salini Impregilo; Galfar; Cimolai, the Italian main contractor for Al Bayt Stadium; and J&P Qatar, Conspel Qatar, J&P?Avax, and J&P (Overseas), the joint venture building Qatar Foundation, will also be at the conference.
