Hamad Trauma Center hosts delegation from GCC Traffic Department

Hamad Trauma Center at Hamad General Hospital recently received a delegation from the GCC Traffic Department as part of this year’s GCC Traffic Week initiative. Organised each year by the Ministry of Interior’s Traffic Department, this year’s events were held under the theme ‘Your Life is a Trust’.
Dr Hassan al-Thani, head of Trauma and Vascular Surgery at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), as well as other senior clinicians and officials from the Corporate Communication Department’s Public Relations team, welcomed the delegation.
Dr al-Thani stressed the importance of unifying efforts aimed at reducing injuries caused by road traffic accidents. He stated that traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death and disability in the region. Dr al-Thani stressed the need to fully implement the National Traffic Safety Strategy to help prevent accidents and protect the safety of individuals through enforcing necessary traffic laws and legislation. He added that public education and provisions to ensure drivers are qualified are also required.
Ali Darwish, assistant executive director of the Ambulance Service at HMC, highlighted the role of the Ambulance Service in caring for those injured prior to, and during, transport to hospital. He noted that technology advancements introduced into HMC ambulances have improved the level of care provided to the injured before they arrive at hospital.
Dr Wafa al-Yazeedi, head of Medical Rehabilitation at HMC, discussed the rehabilitation services provided to accident victims, highlighting the expertise of staff working at the new Qatar Rehabilitation Institute which started to offer some outpatient services late last year. She stressed the importance of taking necessary safety precautions to control road accidents and reduce the number of casualties.
The delegation concluded their visit by meeting with patients who were victims of road traffic accidents.
