The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation yesterday hosted diplomats and development leaders at a meeting to review new research on strategies for educating mobile populations that it commissioned with the German development agency, Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Notable attendees were Hans-Udo Muzel, ambassador of Germany; Mesganu Arga Moach, ambassador of Ethiopia; Fatah Elrahman Ali Omer, ambassador of Sudan; and Daniel Tanui, deputy chief of mission for Kenya.
GIZ was represented by Erfan Diebel, deputy head of Education Sector Programmes. Education Above All CEO Fahad al-Sulaiti opened the meeting by welcoming the new research.
The researchers also presented their findings and Mary Joy Pigozzi, executive director of EAA’s programme Educate A Child, led discussions with the representatives from Ethiopia, Sudan and Kenya about how to improve education for marginalised mobile communities, such as pastoral nomads, seasonal migrants, refugees and internally
displace persons.
