Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) performed a musical concert yesterday the Katara Opera House, which included Beethoven’s sixth and seventh Symphonies, led by Maestro Elias Grandy. Ludwig van Beethoven, who lived between (1770-1827) after Gluck, Haydn and Mozart, was a composer of classical music and his music served as a connecting bridge from the classical to the romantic era.
His influence was great on all musical genres in the 19th century and beyond. Beethoven’s great love of nature led to the creation of his sixth symphony, known as the Pastoral Symphony, which appeared in 1802 and was completed between 1807 and 1808.
The first performance of Pastoral Symphony was in December 1813 during a concert in aid of wounded soldiers. Beethoven’s seventh symphony was a wonderful piece that included several technical innovations, and was a major influence on the 19th century music. Beethoven expanded the symphonic composition through the use of far melodic spaces and incorporated a richness into the orchestral colours as well as a new dimension to the rhythm as a vital power in the music world.
Maestro Elias Grandy said that he had the honour to lead this concert of Beethoven’s sixth and seventh symphonies at the Opera House in Katara amidst a large audience, pointing out that this is the third time that he had led the orchestra. Grandy is one of the most important German maestros and was appointed General Music Director of Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra. He also became Kapellmeister for several years at the Staatstheater Darmstadt where he gained his experience in leading a wide range of musical works ranging from Mozart’s works to modern composers.
