Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked authorities concerned to speed up work on development projects of infrastructure so that deadlines are met.
“While accelerating pace of work, transparency and standard of construction shouldn’t be compromised,” he said. Nawaz was chairing a meeting at the Prime Minister House yesterday to review progress on different road network and transportation projects.
He said road network and transportation projects are vital for economic growth of the country. The meeting was attended by Water and Power Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) director general Muhammad Afzal and National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman Chaudhary Shahid Ashraf Tarar.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman Shiekh Ansar Aziz briefed the meeting on progress on Metro Bus access link from Jinnah Interchange to New Islamabad Airport.
Secretary to the Prime Minister (SPM) Fawad Hasan Fawad, Military Secretary to the PM Brigadier Akmal Aziz also attended the meeting.
The prime minister said that road projects will connect far flung areas to urban centres thereby improving socio-economic conditions of the people.
He directed that projects should be completed in time without compromising on the quality of work. Aziz told the participants that the metro linking new Islamabad airport would be completed early next year.
COLLEGES GET LAPTOPS FROM PM: Keeping in line with the prime minister’s directive, students at 17 colleges of Pakistani capital have received as many as 4,545 laptops and tablets.
Students of ICT colleges, who had applied for the gadgets in phase-II and phase-III of the PM’s Laptop Scheme were awarded laptops in a ceremony on Wednesday.
Islamabad Model Postgraduate College for Girls F-7/2 received the most machines with 849 laptops and tablets for its registered students.
Islamabad Model Postgraduate College for Girls (Margalla) in Sector F-7/4 got 401 machines, Islamabad College for Girls F-6/2 got 693, Islamabad Model College For Girls F-6/2 got 201, Government Polytechnic Institute for Women H-8/1 got 26, Islamabad Model College for Girls F-10/2 got 400, Islamabad Model College of Commerce for girls F-10/3 got 104, Islamabad Model College for Boys F-10/4 got 77 were among those who received laptops.
