Construction of the new Terminal 4 at Singapore's Changi Airport has been halted in the wake of a worker's death, police said on Friday.
The 44-year-old Bangladesh national was doing excavation work this week when he was hit by a steel plate. He was later found unconscious and died in hospital.
The case has been classified as an unnatural death, police said.
The work area has been cordoned off as the investigation continues, a Ministry of Manpower spokesman said.
"The duration of the stop-work order is dependent on how long the company takes to ratify the safety breaches identified by MOM inspectors," he added.
A spokesperson from Changi Airport Group apologised for the employee's death and said they are working with the contracting firm Chan and Chan Engineering to provide assistance to his family.
The new Terminal 4 is still slated to open in the second half of this year, the airport said.
